ear candling, eew.

(top is left ear, bottom photo is right ear)

i can' tell you how frustrating it was
not being able to go to a doctor
and have the wax removed from my ears.

my doctors and oncologists didn't allow me...
then after my stem cell transplant,
i FINALLY went to the ear nose and throat doctor.

he didn't want to remove the wax from my ears, either!

so i thought, what the hell?
and complained to one of my dearest friends.

she recommended ear candling,
that she had done it
and it was not a big deal:
no pain, just some crackling.
the heat draws the wax out!!

so here's the deal:

  • you put a hollowed out "candle" in your ear while your laying your head on one side on a flat surface.
  • the person helping you light (matches, people) the top end of the "candle".
  • there's a bowl of water waiting nearby.
  • when it looks like the ash from the "candle" is about to fall, the person snips off the end with a scissor, into the bowl.
  • the person helping you will tell you when your "candle" is close to the bottom, and inform you when it's done.
all the snap crackle and pop is worth it- it doesn't hurt at all!

so sorry to be gross, but that's what had come out of my ears (after 2 years of buildup...pretty damn yucky)

you are to repeat ear candling every 6 months :)

benefits of ear candling:
  • include relieving tinnitus (ringing in the ears),
  •  helping to relieve sinus pain and pressure,
  • assisting with headaches,
  • relieving severely itchy ears (often caused by yeast, mold or dairy allergies)
  • improved lymphatic fluid flow through the body,
  • improved color perception
  • Acts as a catalyst to clear nerve endings & promote healing

i've read different things, like the "powers that be" or the FDA, deem this illegal.
um, why?

how can it be dangerous if someone is watching you while the candle is lit in your ear?
isn't it more dangerous to drink? to cross a busy street? to take prescription medicine?

how can something that's been around since biblical times be dangerous? crazy people.

maybe the "benefits" work! duh.

gotta love the people that say "wax will drip into your ears" (it doesn't-- it's not that kind of candle.), it won't work (HELLO, SEE ABOVE PHOTOS!).

maybe not everything is quackery.

this DEFINITELY isn't!!

about mucus.

This article from here!

Whenever my nose gets stuffy and my cough a little phlegm-like, I realize it is time to clean up my diet with some anti-inflammatory foods. Mucus is produced in the body as a defense mechanism against toxins, viruses and bacteria and dually cushions and protects the bodies cells in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, visual and auditory systems in humans.
So, while mucus is important in our day-to-day bodily functions, when you start to notice its existence, you’re body’s defenses are up against something and it’s time for you to help them out. The following 5 anti-inflammatory foods help to reduce mucus in your system and restore your body’s balance.
1. Pumpkin Seeds
Traditional Chinese medicine utilizes pumpkin seeds help to regulate the flow of excess mucus. Whether this is sound advice or not is up to your own trial and error, and there is little to lose in the process, as pumpkin seeds carry plenty of other health benefits.
2. Onion
In one study, evidence showed that quercetin, a compound found in onions, may help treat cell-derived allergic inflammatory diseases. In addition to reducing inflammation, quercetin has also exhibited the potential for treating chronic airway diseases by attenuating mucus production.
3. Ginger
Ginger has been shown strengthen the immune system’s response to inflammation associated with asthma. Ginger is a panacea of sorts and is a powerful detoxifying agent that targets the underlying imbalances that lead to mucus overload in the body. It is a detoxificant at heart and an effective one at that.
4. Pineapple
The pineapple fruit may be rough on the outside, but it bears sweet benefits beneath the skin. Pineapple’s bromelain allows it to reduce mucus in the throat and is commonly used as a technique after throat and sinus operations to get rid of mucus.
5. Agar
Agar moistens dryness, dissolves phlegm and mucus in the throat and helps to jumpstart bowels.

about blood

next excerpt taken from this book!

Blood

According to traditional Far Eastern medicine, blood is created largely in the small intestine from the transmutation of metabolized food through the villi. A diet centered on grains and vegetables creates strong, healthy blood with a slightly more alkaline pH value, while the modern diet, combining extremes of meat and sugar creates weak, acid blood, requiring buffer mechanisms, especially depletion of minerals in the body to make balance.

antibiotics

"In recent years, research has shows that antibiotics can interfere with the production of red blood cells, the metabolism of vitamin B-12, and kill benign or beneficial bacteria in the intestines that synthesize vitamin K, biotin, riboflavin, panthothenate, and pyridozine. These nutrients are all associated with proper immune function and protection against disease. Side-effects associated with antibiotic use and misuse include diarrhea, rashes, fever, allergic reactions, hemolytic anemia, bleeding, bone marrow toxicity, and disorders of the kidneys, liver, and central nervous system. The rapid spread of candida albicans and other acute infections has been associated with chronic antibiotic use that has disrupted the normal homeostasis in the digestive system and enabled the selection of pathogenic strains of yeast, fungi, bacilli, and other microorganisms."

UM, DUH.

Try helping your immune system and eat natural food and see what happens before you turn to ridiculous antibiotics.

Prescriptions are what doctors have been trained to give you and they will never to get to the root of your problem.

what i want right now:

i was always fascinated with old world knowledge about food, plants,  herbs, etc.
also, obsessed with movies/shows like, dr.quinn: medicine woman, and practical magic...

when i was really little it goes way back to me mixing up soaps in the bathroom and wishing i knew how to make my own (i obviously never vocalized this to my family)...

always wanted to blend my own teas, and herbs, and experiment with food (making my poor niece "experiment" with me...I'm sorry!!)

so that's what i want.

i devour books and knowledge like this and have recently picked up the book, "Herbal Home Remedies by Jude".

What I will be posting in segments is what part of each herb is used and for what (as a type of medicine):

Acacia

  • use the exudation part
  • removes phlegm from the throat and bronchia, used for respiratory and digestive organs

Allspice

  • use the root
  • used for blood disorders, liver, and gallbladder problems

Angelica

  • use roots, leaves and seeds
  • expectorant for colds and coughs, can treat kidney disorders, aids digestive system.
  • don't mistake hemlock for angelica!!

Anise

  • use leaves and seeds
  • good for colds and flu, digestive aid

Apple

  • use whole fruit
  • dried apple tea as a diuretic
  • aids in elimination of toxins from the system

Asparagus

  • use shoots and roots
  • tea from asparagus is an excellent diuretic, drink every 2-3 hours

Balm of Gilead

  • closed bud of the poplar tree is used
  • expectorant for chest ailments and bronchial disorders

Basil

  • use the leaves
  • aids in digestion and is used as a milk laxative, is used to treat headaches

Bee Balm

  • use the whole plant
  • used as an antiseptic because it contains thymol and removes impurities from the blood, stimulates the liver and spleen

Blackberry

  • use leaves, fruit, roots
  • dissolves deposits in the alimentary system (the organ system devoted to the ingestion, digestion, and assimilation of food and the discharge of residual wastes) as well as the kidneys

Black Alder

  • use barks and fruits
  • treatment for liver and bladder problems, cleans the system of accumulated mucoid toxins (which the medical field calls quackery but it's come out of me and i've seen it while not using anything so it's true)

Boneset

  • the upper half of the herb is used
  • cleansing effect on all organs
  • used as a tonic as well as an aid in eliminating mucus from the alimentary, bronchial, bowel and liver systems
  • also a muscle relaxant

Borage
  • use leaves and flowers
  • relieves depression, the flowers brewed as a tea are used to treat fevers and colds
(taken from pages 42-44)

random things i know!

(one of the random things i know-- these 2 cute pups like to be bad together!!)

i had to get these out of my head,
but there was so many
i couldn't categorize them!
(sorry! even if i've repeated them)

  • your immune system tries to attack the 5 a's...antacids, antibiotics, alcohol, advil, animal foods
  • anything white and refined causes candida and suppresses the immune system
  • melatonin is an anti-cancer substance for the entire body
  • genes don't cause disease, but changes in the environment do.
  • remission only occurs in 7% of patients, no evidence that that success rate results from the treatments offered.
  • temporary tumor shrinkage through chemo has never shown to cure cancer or extend life.
  • have a cough-- use licorice herb (i've done this, it's so helpful, yummy, and non-"medicine"
  • prednisone, cortisone and other steroids used to treat dozens of conditions including asthma, lupus and cancer frequently cause weight gain, because they boost the appetite and force the body to retain certain fluids. they CAUSE just as many disorders as they are used for including cancer, heart disease, depression, hostility and aggression and eating disorders and...RISK OF HIV!
  • tumors could disappear when toxins are eliminated

health mondays: what they don't tell us

  • all cancers are a form of lymphoma
  • cancer cells cannot form tissue
  • the tumor is not the cancer
  • cancer cells don't threatens patients lives unless it spreads
  • cancer cells reside in tumor tissue
  • tumor size has "nothing to do with curing cancer- it's like a check engine light is on after the problem develops"

  • "when our digestive system doesn't function correctly we're not able to reap the full benefits of the food we eat. Aside from digestion, our system must be able to eliminate toxins efficiently." if not, it could be problematic because exposed to toxic environment which produces inflammation and then creates toxic overload.

  • cleansing the colon helps bring the acid/alkaline ratio back into balance allowing friendly bacteria to thrive while inhibiting disease-causing organisms. almost 80% of our immune system resides in our gut, colon and intestines !
(if you haven't yet, start cleansing now! a cleanse, healthy eating, exercise and perhaps colonics is a surefire way to get your immune system back on track <3 )

juice.

i love to create and drink juice every. single. day.
it's developed into a healthy addiction.
i wake up, i think juice.
shop? what do i need for juicing?
going to sleep-- what am i going to juice tomorrow?
juice-- wish someone would clean the kitchen after i juice!

so pictured here is a photo of my first attempt at red cabbage juice.
it was delicious.
it was PURPLE!
I added green apples, banana, and ginger.

Ginger is so delicious because it..."Historically, ginger has a long tradition of being very effective in alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. In herbal medicine, ginger is regarded as an excellentcarminative (a substance which promotes the elimination of intestinal gas) and intestinal spasmolytic (a substance which relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract). Modern scientific research has revealed that ginger possesses numerous therapeutic properties including antioxidant effects, an ability to inhibit the formation of inflammatory compounds, and direct anti-inflammatory effects."

Oh, yeah.
